Italy <3's France

DUDES! (in suits). You think Roman Coppola's video for Phoenix references the Serge clip posted by Damien earlier...MUCH?

Dan Funderburgh - New Site

A man amongst men Dan Funderburgh just launched a new site with beautiful patterns / wallpapers / products and drawings. Check it out!

Serge Gainsbourg

Nothing else to add to this, but it is one of my favorite Serge Gainsbourg songs and this is just a rad rad scene from the Georges Lautner film "La Pacha."

Archetype - Roy Orbison

The definition of picking a style that works and sticking with it. Consistency, gentleman. Orbison was a pop-song writing machine in the 50s & 60s. The Beatles OPENED FOR HIM!! Trademark looks, trademark hooks. Part of that look came by accident when he left behind his glasses on a plane during a tour, leaving him with only his prescription shades. I've been thinking of him lately after I came across this band Ancient Crux. I think we are ready to move on from the Brian Wilson influenced records and slide into something more Orbisony.

Jean Rollin Set

I thought for my first D.I.S post I'd creep you out a little. Check out this Flickr set with images from the work of french "fantastique" director Jean Rollin. Aside from being gorgeous his films take on heavy topics like babes getting lost in a cemetery and lesbian vampires living in a castle. Hot!

RIGGINS!!!

I have found that almost all of my friends have found a secret obsession with the show Friday Night Lights. I am included now. It's about high school football in Texas... sounds bad but it's so good. You don't have to have a TV, it's on hulu and netflix and the rest. Tim Riggins is amazing. Check it out!

Mast Brothers

Last night we had a get-together and sampled some of this amazing chocolate by Brooklyn chocolatiers, Rick and Michael Mast. The packaging is simple, looks to be dead stock wrapping paper w/ craft paper labels... so good. Check out Mast Brothers Chocolate.

BEER!

Photo via barrelny
I have been into Growlers (a big jug) of beer these days. Here are my spots: Grab and Beirkraft in Parkslope Brooklyn. It's a eco-friendly because there is no waste, the beer is fresh and local and you can play Edward Growler Hands. So good!

Vintage Volks

I don't have a car now but if I do get one I would take a vintage Beetle. People on the streets would say, "That guy was a bad ass... I bet."

All American

Via Renifery 29
Everyone is pro America these days. Its totally hip to be an American! Opening Ceremony's up coming collection is all made in the US by the American heritage brand Pendleton. Now the hundred-year-old brand gets a modern spin with 23 updated men's and women's pieces, including Navajo blankets refashioned as bell skirts and patchwork plaid shirts with contrasting color sleeves.

Task Lamp: Peter Stathis

I helped the amazing designer, Peter Stathis, with this task light for Pablo. It is made of a metal/polymer/metal sandwich material that allows the electricity to flow straight through the struts to the LED lights. Its truly an amazing design. Great Job Peter and Pablo!

Rad Mountain at Apple SOHO

Friends Damien Correll and Garrett Morin (Gerret Morten) of Rad Mountain are giving a talk at the SOHO Apple store Wednesday at 6.30pm. They tell me it's going to be filled with free form modern dance and trance music. Go check it out!

Affordable Tapio

Ultima Thule, 1972
Pollo Vase, 1970

I forgot to mention that there are affordable Tapio pieces. These are a couple that I have in my collection.

Icon: Tapio Wirkkala

X-frame table, 1958 Bolle Bottles, 1968
Tapio Wirkkala is one of my favorite designers for sure. He had a great sensibility between hand craft and mass production. His objects are so simple, reflecting nature and technology simultaneously. He looks like Santa and used to whittle knife handles in the Finnish woods... Pretty much my dream.

Tortured Manhood by Thome Browne

via New York Magazine
Tortured Manhood by Thome Browne consisted of 40 models acting out, in unison, the day of an office drone from the 1950s. The models all wore the same outfit: a shrunken gray suit, cardigan, wing tips, and camel overcoat. After they walked into the room, a “ boss” rang a bell at which point they took off their short coats and slim-fitting suit jackets, sat down, and started typing. They sat at identical desks and even ate identical lunches.

Clouds by the Bouroullecs

These fabric swatches link together to form a sort of quilt-like structure. Not sure of the function but I like to think things can be purely decorative. Also check out the movie they made on the kvadra site.

His site has been updated and looks good. Check it!

Anderson + Pitt + Japanese Advert

Please Don't Tell

I had a drink at the Please Don't Tell speakeasy last night. My recommendation: a bacon infused bourbon Old Fashioned and a hot dog by Wiley Dufrain, which has maple ketchup and fried mayo. So good!

Objectified

Gary Hustwit, creator of the Helvetica film, is releasing a new documentary on object design called Objectified. The film features all my favorites Jonathan Ive, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Marc Newson, Naoto Fukasawa, Jasper Morrison and Deiter Rams. It also has interviews with my boss Karim Rashid... Should be really good... especially for object aficionados.

Listen: Alaska in Winter

Check out Alaska in Winter. Robo-folk is kind of awesome, plus Zach Condon from Beirut is on a couple of tracks... so good!
