Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, KY
It's almost time to take some cool spring road trips. We are definitely going to check out some Shaker villages to see some craft, modern design inspiration and fantastical religious rhetoric. Here are the ones to visit: Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in Kentucky and Hancock Shaker Village in Massachusetts.

Paul Smith: Fall '09
Great jacket.
I have been checking out all the collections from this fashion month and the one that catches my eye has to be Paul Smith. It's typical stuff for Smith but that's a good thing. It seems that every other designer is over designing a bit but he's keeping it pretty simple... nice fits, good materials, interesting mix of patterns and colors. Check it out.

Black Fleece Flagship
Last Friday saw the opening of the 800-square foot Black Fleece store in the West Village. The Thom Browne designed line for Brooks Brothers currently has the entire Spring collection on display (it's not a huge store). It is nice to see where this middle ground between classic american cuts and patterns (Brooks Brothers) and the more contemporary and extreme cuts (Thom Browne's Personal Collection) intersects. It's quite wearable and surprisingly not super expensive.

Sully!
After the crash, Sully called the library to let them know that a book he had checked out was lost in the crash. The subject: professional ethics. Doesn't get better than Capt.Sully!
Mister Freedom
During my brief Tenure in the City of Los Angeles. One of the few bright spots (aside from the Bright Spot Cafe) was Mister Freedom. Just off Melrose Blvd. was the Mister Freedom shop where you'll find the most incredible albeit expensive selection of vintage military and workwear. A Continuous Lean got some good shots of the store and Mr. himself a while back.

Alec Soth:
“During these last days of the administration, what is the point of protest, satire or any other sort of rabble-rousing? In assembling this collection of pictures I’ve made over the last eight years, I’m not really trying to accomplish much at all. But as President Bush once said, ‘One of the great things about books is, sometimes there are some fantastic pictures.’” - Alec Soth
Saw this on the Walker Art Center’s Design blog and wanted to repost as its amazing project by one of my favorite photographers.
