Truman Capote

I've always thought Truman Capote was amazing. Whether he's in a suit or just rocking some crazy scarf... I think if I was dude he'd be my fashion icon.

Uniform

I went to private high school where I wore a uniform everyday. I guess I got used to it, because these post-schooling days I find myself sporting a pretty routine look:
Brooks Bros white v-neck
Skinny jeans
Minnetonka moccasins
Comme de Garcon wallet (textured bright blue)
Gold Casio watch

Designer Brand: Rag and Bone

Do yourself a favor, if you haven't already, check out Rag and Bone. I went to the Fall/Winter 08 show and they made me rethink my whole style. They have amazing taste and curate a great style. They walk the line of classic and modern (my favorite). The details, materials and fit are perfect. Check it out!

I just got one of the ties pictured (in dark gray). I has a dagger print... enough said.

Calling All Cards...

Once you've sorted the wardrobe and grooming implements, supplies, etc., it's time to consult your local printmaker for a new Carte de Visite. The tremendous and fortunate resurgence of small regional Letterpress printers in the USA affords a veritable cornucopia of options for the discerning fellow who's interested in making an indelible first impression. Here are but a few who would happily oblige any request to put high quality type to paper:

i am still alive

dan, i thought you especially might appreciate this coincidence; it's a funny home-improvement idea as well. look closely:

this is the doorway into my kitchen. my friend kirk, who lived here before us, most likely did this. it's embossed lettering under the coat of paint. i must say it was very, very creepy to discover this, but a great idea in the end...

Inspiration: Half Nelson & the Short Sleeve Dress Shirt

Not only is Half Nelson a great movie but Ryan Gosling also sported some pretty amazing threads, including short sleeve dress shirts.

Steven Allen did some pretty cool short sleevers for Urban under the name Lark and Wolff. Check it!

the comfort of home

right now i am living in these:

they're not exactly slippers, not exactly shoes– "house shoes," perhaps? perfect for getting stuff done around the house, yet wearable for a couple errands. they even look killer with a flat-front trouser.

they're $50, for chrissakes. why not?

Speaking of Bumbershoots: James Smith & Sons

We can learn from history

The effortlessly utilitarian uniform of the Italian octogenarian circa 1961: lived-in hand-tailored linen jacket and high-waisted trousers, impeccably-deployed braces, jaunty chapeau, thousand yard stare, and a gut that never suffered through a "maintenance meal".

Or you could opt for the rakish banker persona, but don't overlook subtle details like a strategically imprecise tie/collar alignment and bumbershoot-as-surrogate monocle.

Man Grooming: Lulu Organics

I don't wash my hair everyday... kind of like early man... thus this is an awesome product. It's a powder that you rub into your hair and it basically degreases your locks. Check it out, Lulu Organics.

Dapper Man: J Zach

Our first Dapper Man featured is Zach Keenan. He has a ginger beard and sports vintage like no one's business.

Check his amazing work out at J-Zachary.

Introduction: Post 01

"Yes, there he is. Who is he? What does he do? What does he want? ... Look at him. Look at him now. And now. Look at him all the time." The Perfect Human - Jorgen Leth

Welcome to Dudes in Suits. My friends and I will be exploring the modern man, the fashionable man. We will speculate sort of like Jorgen Leth has. Who is he? What does he do? Where does he live? What does he read, listen to and of course wear? All with the idea that we, in fact, are him. Enjoy.
